Nasir Mahmud, the visionary behind Pennie Fabrics, founded the company in 2012 to bring premium fabrics and the artistry of fashion design to Sarasota, Florida.

Born in Pakistan, Nasir moved to New York City in 1976 and built a successful career in the garment and textile industry. As a textile broker on 7th Avenue and Broadway, he collaborated with leading design houses, developing deep expertise in fabrics and materials.

In 2013, he relocated to Sarasota, recognizing a need for high-quality, deadstock fabrics in the area. With Pennie Fabrics, he created a space where both established designers and emerging creatives could access a carefully curated selection of premium textiles—bridging the gap between fashion, art, and sustainability.
